you know what said is the 2.3l is put out almost as much power and with cold air and exhaust your looking at an even small difference. so after a tune and some other stuff your looking a  lil to no diff

they dropped the hp rating to raise the torque a bit... it was just some fuel mapping changes in the ecu to try to make it more fuel efficient.

thats true but take note that a modified 2.3 will keep up with a stock 4.0.  i like my 3.0 personally. high compression allowed me to tow a honda civic the other day like a champ and its got goo power in a V6... made out of cast iron and will last forever, almost as long as the 2.3

Well, ever since ford's CEO went to toyota to look how they do things a few years back he made a business plan... hat plan made them #1 over the recession... i hate that they are killing it but since they are im looking forward to the next step... And when the 3.0 came out it was a desperate measure by ford to create an engine that would go in most of the vehicles... the 3.0 saved ford mo co by making it cheaper in bulk and it retired in 2008 because it did its job and ford was at the point they could make something better.  The range also saved ford early on.

I'm pretty sure that the 4.0L in the third gen still only had 160 hp.  It got the bump up to 207 in 2001 when it went to the overhead cam style.
