Where you at in BC?  I'm right on Whidbey if you need any help with the engine setup.  As for the 4x4 part, hope you can get all the parts to get it going.  Putting the 5.0 isn't as hard as it first looks, the frame was just the right width to drop it in with the engine mounts with very few mods to the body.  If your'e putting in a lift, it allows for the use of bigger motors.

i live in aldergrove and yea i thought about a 5.0 for a little bit but with my skill it might be taking a bigger bit than i can chew so i think a 4.0 would  be better for me imo and ive bin thinking about gettting a ford expo for a donor so mabey i can take out the drivetrain and 4x4 set-up out of it or what do you guys think can i leave it 2wd or is it worth it to go 4x4

I don't blame you for thinking it's a bit overwhelming, went throught the same thing until the donor of the mustang came forward.  Tried to upgrade to a 2.9L at first and got discouraged with out a donor truck to get additional parts off of.  Most 4.0 Explorers with the 4x4 set up will transfer over completely to your truck with a few modifications along the way.  Just a thought, trying to go through with this is going to result in a nearly complete dissassembly of your truck to do the mod and can open the possibilities to change or improve on anything going into it, especially if this is a first project of this magnitude.  I got a few pics of a 94 ranger on my cardomain site where the guy stuffed a 4.6L under the hood and next to it was his 94 ranger electric conversion.   Do some checking at the wrecking yards or craigslist where i got hooked up with the 8.8 rear from a 2000 explorer.  Good luck

Just about dropped my jaw when he said 400 hp out of that 4.6.  See him drivin it around town once in a while.  Love to do another V8 project but the wife has just about had it with this one, got to be realistic.  I got the chance to get this project started when i saved up the perdiem funds from one of my Navy deployments to Germany for 6 months, the only way it was going to happen.

Putting a SOHC into a ODB I truck is probably more involved than throwing a 5.0 in there.  Just look at cavlcore's biuld.  Its pretty involved.

Trying not to steer you from the 4.0, all that went into mine was the engine computer harness from the mustang and the alternator and distributor from the truck.  Carb requires almost no wiring nightmares and the current 4.0 OBDII electronics is just about tied into everything.  Having the OEM schematics for both vehicles came in extremely handy as well.

If I had a 2.3 I would go the turbo route.  Find Turbocoupe and swap manifolds, turbo, tap and oil feed, and run a few wires.done.

i thought about that to but my old engine has 244,000 kms on it so i would mind get something alittle more stronger like a 4.0l if i had like 130,000 kms on it then yea i do the turbo route for sure. but i met this guy that has a 97 ranger 2wd with a 4.0l and he goes mudding all around here and he said he does better in the mud with his 2wd than most people do in there 4wd
