Front Bumper Dilema
« on: February 09, 2010, 09:08:57 PM »
So im not sure if i should paint the chrome part of my front bumper black to match the rest of the trim or not. I've seen it on a few rangers and liked it but im not sure about it. Also i think i'd paint the rear bumper chrome part to math my paint. Opinions on this? anyone good at photshop help me out?

Painting chrome is a bad idea, it wont stick for very long.  Your best bet is blasting it and powder coating it or look on ebay for painted bumpers.  Usually they can be had for 100 bucks with shipping.

I would probably paint it, but you might run into the problems that others were talking about.  Paint doesn't really like to stick to it at all.  On my old Ranger, I grinded all the chrome down and put the duplicolor bed liner stuff on it.  It lasted relatively well, but it started to rust after a half a winter.  Not a fan of chrome at all.

I would look for a painted bumper you don't want to paint the chrome...

The bumper in our logo was painted over chrome... it held up pretty well... the only scratch that's on it is from my fingernail testing to see if it would hold (ironic, I know)...

smooth danny... look for an edge like mine!  Or just go onto rockauto.com and look up the part under the make, model, year, exterior, and just a base one.  They should have something on there for cheap!
