3" lift, body or suspension?

hey guys, just wondering what a good type of lift for abour 3" would be and whether i should get body or suspension lift? whats the difference?

Personally I say go with suspension.  With suspension lift you will actually gain wheel travel, ground clearance, and ride height. 

Body lifts do nothing but gain creance for larger tires, IMO.  They will stretch wires, steering linkage, and hoses.  They will leave 3" gaps between the body and frame, male the motor 3"s lower in the engine bay (pain to work on) and the bumpers will either be 3"s too low, or raised with brackets that make them good for nothing but looks in an accident.

But I have heard on 98+ trucks they are the only option for some that cant drop 1500 on a lift.  I have heard the kits now come with extentions for damn near everyting as well.

i would agree for the most part with plum. the body lift is also know for the bolts breaking in a crash. i did a body mount lift but its alot of work to do. i would look into susp lifts

there good for a cheap lift but thats about it. plus a suspension lift just looks ten time better! but on the other hand if your state measures from the bottom of your frame for lift laws that is a good way to get away with a little bit more lift thats the only reason i run one on my bronco II. but looking at my bronco you wouldn't think it has one becouse i built my bumpers and rock slider to where they fit to the body like they should.

We dont have to go for instections or smog tests in Ohio yet.lol  But the legeal limit here is 22 inches to the bottom of the bumper.  I am 4.5 inches too high.  My uncle got pulled over by some d-bag cop who said his bumper was too high.(he was a half inch over) and when they went to court the judge asked my uncle was hauling anything in the bed, he said no, the judge said so when he puts something in the bed it will squat and be legal so why did you drag in him into my courtroom?  My uncle didnt get a ticket or a fine.  At least some Judges have a good side

Wow im glad somebody in or gov. has some sense. I would go suspension, in fact i am going suspension. I welding it myself, but if you have no money, and no welding skills i guess your left with only a bl. I wouldnt go 3, 2 at most, they change your center of gravity, and mess up turning steering and off roading.

Georgia says that you cannot have your bumpers over 2" from stock height lifted or lowered... Mine are about 12-14... LOL

I've never had any issues here... even been pulled over a couple times. One cop started talking about my truck (for like 10 min... LOL) and then he just let me go without a warning...

wow some states suck lol ca has to be one of the worst depending on the issue like racing or speeding but i have seen some dumb laws out there for sure

Some of CA's laws are adopted by Alaska. :( So, we experience some of the same laws. We, also have to get are vehical's IMed, which is stupid cause our air is the cleanest mountain are you can get.

usually if we have are mud flaps witch are also required in UT were ok my dodge is not supposed to be over 28" to the lowest point of the frame and its at 34 1/2 but as long as ive been running my mud flaps ive been ok but you bet anything if i dont run my mud flaps i will guaranty that they will pull you over.
